my pirate

the b-day party was yesterday, we all had such a good time! we had the party at 10-11am so it wasnt yet hot, didnt interfere with anyones nap and didnt take a chunk out of the guests' day like a 2pm party sometimes does. it was an outdoor affair which meant minimal cleanup and no personal property damaged. goodie bags with an eye patch, a bandana a horn and the requisite candy were given out so the kids could be pirates, only 2 kids out of 4 wore the eyepatch, only one wore the bandana, and let me say that one also blew his horn for all it was worth.
we supplied pool noodles cut in half for the boys to sword fight with and also soccer balls (not much interest in those) of course the main attraction was the swingset, no structured games planned. they played for about 35 minutes or so then on to cupcakes (frostingless for less mess) and every kid's fave GOLDFISH CRACKERS!!!  then a few more minutes of play before gift time, where there were numerous trucks, tractors and construction toys opened, and the gracious birthday boy, bless his little heart, let all of his friends play with his new toys (but i dont think he realized at that point that they were actually HIS toys) then all of his sugared up playmates went home.
it was short and sweet and only one kid fell down and cried, but he was ok in the end just a couple of scratches.

Sounds like a success to me!!! I'm tellin' ya, I'm the worst party planner I've ever met, I need some of your party planning skills and the calm, cool attitude that goes along with it!

The giveaway? What giveaway? I'll announce it soon, I'm still gathering some of the surprises!

On getting E to behave: we've stopped giving warnings and have started to expect him to do what we tell him to the first time. For example: If I tell him to pick up his toys he know, now, that if he doesn't do it then he will immediately be in trouble. We tell him all the time that he is a big boy and we shouldn't have to tell him to do something twice.

Also, pick up the book Shepherding a Child's Heart, it will change everything you ever thought about Biblical parenthood.

I love the photo! How cute is your little guy! Sounds like a wonderful time was had at the birthday!

And to answer your question - I was wearing long sleeves. It was a beautiful day on Saturday (upper 70s/low 80s), but by evening I was getting chilly.
